The large sandy beach of Cavaou, in Fos-sur-Mer, is known for being an excellent spot for Kitesurfing or windsurfing, even surfing when the right wind sets in to create the waves necessary for the practice.
But while the beach is mainly known for its water sports, it is still large enough to also accommodate swimmers. Everyone will find a place to put down their towel or their riding equipment, as its surface area is substantial. A large nearby parking lot (500 spaces) and beach facilities (snack bar, shower, lifeguard) make it a very family-friendly beach in summer.
As for the scenery, here we are far from the quiet atmosphere of small coves. Offshore, large oil tankers wait for the green light to enter the port of Fos and in the distance, the factories of the petrochemical complex create a rather strange and impressive atmosphere. But each year, Cavaou beach obtains its "Blue Flag" certification.
