Utah Beach is one of the most historically famous D-Day landing beaches, on the east Cotentin coast. It is also a very large, multi-purpose kitesurf spot: 12 km of long, gently-sloping sandy beach, no rocks, safe for all levels. Flat water in offshore winds, small waves in onshore conditions.
Best at low tide for more space and organised plan d'eau. At high tide: very little beach space (dunes nearby). Beautiful "bassines" (natural pools) form on a falling tide — ideal for freestyle. Works from NE (side-onshore, waves) through SE and S (offshore, flat), and also NW. W wind is disturbed by the dunes — windsurf only. The CNPS community and club Avel-Mor (landboard) are present on site. Historic D-Day museum nearby adds a unique cultural dimension.

Access: from the D-Day museum, follow the coast road north. Camping with parking nearby. The Avel-Mor landboard club and beach access are on site. Prefer low tide to mid tide for kite. At high tide, beach disappears: check the tidal schedule. Neoprene boots recommended (shellfish beds in low tide areas).

At high tide: sea covers the beach up to the dunes — very little space to launch. Always check tidal height before going. W wind: the dunes disturb and channel the wind creating dangerous turbulences — practice with great caution or avoid. Shellfish beds (mussel and oyster) at low tide in some sections — wear neoprene boots. The Baie des Veys tidal current can be significant north of Utah Beach. Tidal amplitude is large here.
NE to E: side-onshore port tack, small to medium waves. SE and S: offshore — flat water, ideal for freestyle, but stay close to shore with these directions. NW and N: also works, side to side-onshore depending on exact direction. W: dune wind turbulence — unsafe for kite, windsurf only. Best at low tide ±2 hours for open flat plan d'eau. Falling tide creates natural pools (bassines) for freestyle.
