Overview

Historic windsurfing beach on Lac du Bourget since the 70s-80s, Le Lido is an iconic spot in the region. Located near Cap des Séselets (fin-shaped development built in 2009), it offers a huge body of water allowing 15 km upwind runs in Northwest winds.

The spot works mainly with Bise du Nord (N/NW) and the Traverse, a thermal westerly wind that picks up 2-3 times per week in late afternoon. With 618 rideable hours per year (wind >16 knots), the best months are June, July and May.

Warning: tricky spot with irregular wind that can drop at any moment. Bring fins! Not recommended for beginners.

Spot functioning

The spot works better in Northwest than pure North. The northern Bise offers the best conditions with endless runs possible along the lake's axis.

The Traverse (westerly thermal) picks up around 5-6 PM until 9 PM and beyond, 2-3 times per week, with 10-15 knots sometimes more. This cross-shore wind allows riding along the lake's length.

In summer: complex conditions, about 4 days >15 knots in July-August. Some light thermals 8-10 knots in the evening or after rain.

On the water

Freshwater lake, huge 18 km long body of water. Launch on grass, water entry on round pebbles. Side-shore spot in open water.

In NW wind, 15 km runs possible along the lake's axis - comparable to l'Almanarre or Serre-Ponçon in terms of distance.

Hazards

Irregular wind: can drop at any moment, always bring swim fins!

If wind dies: NEVER walk back along the road with kite in the air. Pack lines in the water and deflate the kite before returning to shore.

Riding mandatory beyond yellow buoys (200-meter zone). Jumps only in open water.

Cohabitation: respect other activities (swimming, fishing, boating). Minimize time with kite in the air: immediate launches and landings only.
