La Palud is the reference wave spot on the Crozon peninsula and one of the most beautiful and powerful spots in Brittany. Facing due west, it captures even the smallest Atlantic swell. A long sandy beach set between rocky cliffs, overlooked by the Île Guénéron offshore. Wild nature reserve — dunes, heather, no development.
Privileged for surf in light wind, and for windsurf/kitesurf when the wind picks up. Best in autumn/winter when North Atlantic depressions deliver powerful swell. Best waves at mid to high rising tide, especially in front of the car park or slightly left. Low tide: surfable but often irregular and soft, and rocks/obstacles appear in places.
One of the best Breton spots for the "Waterman" who combines surf, kite and windsurf. Expert level mandatory.
Expert windsurfers and kiters from across Europe travel to La Palud. Absolute Surf (Crozon) and local kite clubs use the spot. Guidel Kite Club has documented sessions here. No official school on site — expert spot only.
Access: from Crozon/Morgat, take the Cap de la Chèvre road. Turn right just after Montourgard and follow the single track road straight through — car park above the bay (rough track, ~50 spaces, low vehicles may scrape). Steep path down to the beach — carry your equipment down.
The beach can be quite wide at low tide. Two main zones: north half (more protected, used by advanced riders with the "ascenseur" current); south half (more open, main surfing area).
Beach break exposed full west — catches any Atlantic swell. Best waves at mid to high rising tide (WSW ideal swell angle). Left and right breaks. North end: stronger baïnes rip currents, powerful "ascenseur" current along cliff (used by advanced riders). South end: main surf zone. Rocks and WWII anti-landing obstacles both ends — stay in the central sandy zone. Current can reach up to 8m swell in extreme storms; rideable max ~4m.

Car park above the bay, rough stony track (deep ruts on sections). Low vehicles will scrape the underside. About 50 spaces. No facilities. Walk down steep path with equipment. In summer, the car park fills quickly on good days.
Expert-only spot — never ride here if you are not a confirmed wave rider. Multiple serious dangers:
La Palud faces due west — the key wind orientations are:
Wind can gust very strongly in squally weather — conditions can change quickly. Autumn/winter preferred season.
