Overview

This is a large wild beach (extending to Port la Nouvelle), made of sand. Les Coussoules beach is a large, very wide beach, with a large area of hard sand, and therefore a dedicated area for "rolling", for all kinds of sand yachting, kite buggying, etc...
Swept by the tramontane wind almost 300 days a year, conditions are generally 30 knots and more with tramontane and 25 knots with sea breeze.
The technical area is an approved kiteboarding zone, 400 meters long, forbidden to swimmers from April to the end of September. The launch area is wide and without obstacles downwind. There is generally always someone who can help with launching a kite. 
This kite area benefits from a SAFETY service from May to September, with jet ski, paid service, but which allows you to ride safely even in offshore wind conditions.

Safety service costs 10 euros per day for members, 22 euros for non-members.

Spot functioning

Highway A9 exit 40 "Leucate, Port Leucate". Go straight towards Leucate, then turn right at the La Franqui sign. Pass in front of La Franqui train station and take the next left turn. Follow the road to the bridge, cross the bridge and park in the parking lot next to the municipal campsite. Free parking. Paid for campervans overnight. The parking lot opens to the beach for pedestrians only (forbidden to all vehicles). The technical area is located 500 meters on foot from the parking lot, opposite the campsite, to the left of the lifeguard station.

Hazards

The only danger remains practicing kite on this spot (offshore wind) when there is no jet ski safety service, because if a problem occurs, you are pushed out to sea. The wind is still a bit side-off so you can manage to return to the cliff of La Franqui, but you need to be vigilant nonetheless. 
When the safety service is there, there are no worries. Other activities practiced at the Coussoules site are windsurfing, sand yachting, kite buggying, horseback riding, cycling, and walking.
