Hardelot-Plage is one of the most consistent kitesurf and wingfoil spots on the Côte d'Opale, ideally exposed to the dominant SW winds, located between Le Touquet (south) and Boulogne-sur-Mer (north). The beach extends for several kilometres, with famous natural baïnes at low tide providing exceptional flat water.
Launch south of the chenal (boat channel), in the APG-designated zone. The baïnes at low tide are perfect for progression and freestyle. At high tide: more waves and less beach space — more technical. Works S to NW. NE and E are offshore — forbidden. New "Georges Pernoud" sports base with full facilities. KiteZone 62 and Shaka Kite School operate from Hardelot.
KiteZone 62 — kitesurf school based at Le Touquet, operating at Hardelot (base "Georges Pernoud": welcome area, changing rooms, showers, clubhouse). Year-round. BPJEPS. kitezone.fr
Shaka Kite School — kitesurf school based at Equihen Plage covering Hardelot beach. shakakiteschool.com
FFVL certified spot. Club Nautique d'Hardelot on site.
Access: A16 exit Neufchâtel-Hardelot, follow "Hardelot la plage" then "base de glisse". Parking on the street leading to the club (not on the sailing base itself). Rig at the club's designated kite mat (members), then connect lines near the water. Launch south of the chenal — not to be crossed in summer. Base Georges Pernoud: full facilities. APG and KiteZone 62 run sessions from here.
Beginner
Open all year round
Rocks at the edges of the channel (chenal) — mandatory to launch south of the chenal and stay clear of rocky areas, especially at high tide. The chenal in summer must not be crossed (motorboat traffic). Stay maximum south of the kite zone in summer to avoid all other activities. Kiteboarding distance from rocky areas: 50m minimum. High tide: very little beach, shore break on rocks. Check tide schedule before visiting.
SW to W: optimal — dominant winds on this coast, side-onshore port tack, baïnes at low tide provide flat water. S: slightly side-off but usable. N and NW: works well. NE and E: offshore — forbidden. At low tide: exceptional baïnes (natural tidal pools) covering several km — the signature condition for this spot. High tide: more wave and current, beware rocks near the chenal.
